Weekend Roundup: June 14th - June 16th

Happy Friday!  Here's a roundup of events happening this weekend in Brooklyn:
Friday, June 14th:
  • The Northside Festival started yesterday, offering tons of music, films and speakers to fill up your weekend and then some.  Ticket prices vary, starting at $35 for films.  Check website for details on schedule and locations.  
Saturday, June 15th:
  • "The Audience," in which Helen Mirren reprises her Academy Award-winning role as Queen Elizabeth II, plays early on Saturday morning at BAM.  $24.  30 Lafayette Street, 10AM. 
  • The Gowanus Challenge takes place today, and you know you don't want to miss the first boat race on a Superfund site.  Here's a previous post on the Gowanus Canal to prepare you for this historic occasion.  Nose plugs optional.  Free.  Race starts at 2nd Street near Bond Street at 11:00AM. 
  • As part of the Northside Festival, Chance the Rapper takes the stage at Europa.  One of his songs is inspired by a 10-day suspension from high school.  $15.  98-104 Meserole Avenue, 7:00PM.
  • Calexico, Susana Baca, Radio Jarocho & Akoko Nante Ensemble play at the Prospect Park Bandshell.  Free/$3 suggested donation.  Prospect Park Bandshell, 7PM. 
Sunday, June 16th: Happy Father's Day!
  • The Seventh Heaven Street Festival takes place on {where else!} Seventh Avenue in Park Slope.  Free.  Seventh Avenue between Flatbush to 18th Street, 12PM-6PM.
  • Treat your dad to some jazz at the Red Hook Jazz Festival.  $10.  President and Van Brunt Streets, 1PM-6PM.
