Weekend Roundup: April 12th - April 14th

Plenty of sunglasses to choose from for a vacation in the Caribbean... 

Happy {rainy} Friday!  Here is a roundup of events happening in Brooklyn this weekend:

Friday, April 12th:
  • Friday night is the perfect night to check out restaurant reopenings - notably Franny's in Park Slope and Fatty 'Cue in Williamsburg.  Franny's is located at 348 Flatbush Avenue and Fatty 'Cue is located at 91 South Sixth Street.
  • See Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" set in present-day Africa at BAM.  Tickets start at $25.  BAM, 30 Lafayette Avenue.  Performances on Friday at 7:30PM, Saturday at 2:00PM and 7:30PM, and Sunday at 3:00PM. 

Saturday, April 13th:
  • Help prepare Brooklyn Bridge Park for its spring visitors by volunteering at Spring Spruce Up & Cut Back.  Free.  Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, 10AM-1PM. 
  • Support independent artists and art programs at PS 9 by purchasing goods at the Prospect Heights Craft Fair.   Free.  PS 9, 80 Underhill Avenue, 11AM-6PM.
  • Speaking of comfort foods, eat some free grilled cheese sandwiches and celebrate National Grilled Cheese Month (yes, it's a real thing) courtesy of Brooklyn Slate Co.'s new shop in Red Hook.   Free.  305 Van Brunt Street, 12PM-4PM. 
  • Get ahead start on Earth Day with Habana Works' 2013 Earth Day Expo.  Free.  757 Fulton at S. Portland Street, 12PM-4PM.
  • Enjoy the spring weather and learn some history about Brooklyn Heights on a Historic Tour co-sponsored by Big Onion and Brooklyn Historical Society.  Tickets are $20.  Meet at the grand sweeping steps on back-side of Brooklyn Borough Hall, facing Cadman Plaza, 1:00PM.

Sunday, April 14th:
  • Make your Sunday afternoon a little more classy by attending a concert of Haydn, Bach, and Mendelssohn by the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra.  Free (suggested donation $15).  St. Ann's Church, 157 Montague Street, 3:00PM-4:45PM.
And for the week ahead, They Might Be Giants is performing a FREE show this Tuesday, April 16th at 7PM.   Academy Record Annex, 96 N. 6th Street, 7PM.
